This research peptide, also known as bremelanotide, is an analog of the alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) that activates several melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system. This product is an active metabolite of the peptide Melanotan II, but it lacks the function of the C-terminal amide.
Bremelanotide is touted as the first and only lab created aphrodisiac. Research conducted on animals using this peptide showed a significant ability to induce lordosis behavior, demonstrating a desire to have intercourse or mate. Considerably different than the mechanism is sildenafil (Viagra), this peptide acts to increase the desire for sexual activity rather than just affecting the vascular system.
The research for the use of bremelanotide in treating both female and male sexual dysfunction is ongoing. Additional research is currently underway focusing on the peptide’s potential ability to help control hemorrhagic shock.
